sic erat scriptum

From the series of questions I have been asking myself: how does one train the mind?

I have been training my body. Nourishing it and pushing it the ways I want it to go. It protests, causing the mind to brandish the whip and claim control.

But how do I seize control of the mind?

Expectations. Expectations are what master the mind. Any happy or sad or frustrated or enthralled relies on what was presumed and assumed in the first place. My assumptions and presumptions are what I tell myself, however, and my wishful thinking always turns out to be as controllable as my cramped leg muscle or stressed out eye twitch. In the end, perhaps control is an illusion and what you expect is what you expect and you can tell yourself whatever you want… but you cannot truly change it

As it was written.

We do not become satisfied by leading a peaceful and prosperous existence. Rather, we become satisfied when reality matches our expectations. The bad news is that as conditions improve, expectations balloon.”  Yuval Noah Harari
